Our Mission
The Young Writers Competition is a platform designed to empower young voices across Rwanda and Zimbabwe, enabling them to showcase their creativity. Every young person between the ages of 13 and 18 has an opportunity to tell their unique stories and has the potential to become a powerful communicator who will shape their community. By holding quarterly competitions, we create accessible pathways for self-expression while fostering essential skills in critical thinking, storytelling, and English communication.
We aim to extend beyond competition to community building and cultural celebration. We create a supportive community where young writers get to network, receive valuable feedback, recognition, and publication opportunities that inspire continued growth. We preserve diverse cultural voices by encouraging participants to incorporate their cultural heritage into their writing and by maintaining yearbooks as well as animated story adaptations.
We envision the Young Writers Competition as the premier platform nurturing storytellers across Africa. Through partnerships with schools, libraries, and youth organizations, combined with sustainable funding and evolving technology, we aim to create a continental network of young leaders and storytellers. Our work contributes to a more literate and culturally rich Africa where every young voice has the power to create meaningful change.
